Congratulations Simon, Paul and the rest of the team on asking partners, subscribers and everyone else interested for ideas on developing Ruralnetonline.
To help do that, how about we think of some typical situations where organisations, groups or individuals have a communication or collaboration need that could be satisfied by Ruralnetonline.
Ten years ago people needed help with access to the Net, email addresses and basic communications.
These days they may have broadband and good equipment - but still be using email and attachments for collaborative working. There are lots of free tools which would help them be much more productive ... but they don't have time or confidence to learn how to use them. There may be resistance introducing them to colleagues.
Ten years on there is no shortage of information on the Net - but Experts Online shows how much people appreciate the added value of sifting and tailoring to their needs.
xPress Digest is a terrific service ... but would it be even more valuable if organisations could pay for a feed specific to their area.
Chief executives of organisations may be more or less aware of the potential of new tools. I would be interested in exploring what sort of digital coaching they may need before they can take decisions on what's needed in their organisation.
So ... what needs are the Ruralnet team spotting? Then we can think what mix of tech tools, content and support is needed. Ten years back a lot could be done by providing online access, email and basic training. These days access is much less of a problem , many of the tools for communication and collaboration are free ... and we have plenty of information. But people still have great difficulty in tailoring what's on offer to their personal and organisation needs.
So - what are people crying out for? Will those needs be met by general services, or will Ruralnetonline have to offer more customised services, and consultancy?
