The Ruralnetonline game

IMG_0491As Paul has said, at the focus group day we played a version of the social media game originally developed with my colleague Drew Mackie, and enhanced by Beth Kanter and others.
The way it worked, to summarise, was:

1. We split into two groups, and each invented a scenario. As Paul reported, these were a small village fighting for sustainability, and a large network of parish and town councils. The instruction was, "make it challenging because the other group will be solving the problems and looking at how social media can help". (Of course the catch is that you inherit the other group's challenges!).

Focus group thoughts

IMG_0494 Like I said in the previous post, it's been a busy week and getting around to posting something has been a challenge, but firstly a BIG thank you to everyone who came. Despite what Dave Briggs said there is no need to feel guilty, we got a huge amount out of the day and I hope everyone that came also got something out of it too, even if it was just an eye opener to what is possible.

The timings for the day went a bit out of the window thanks to some train problems, but after Simon's introduction and my review of my Working2.0 day there was a great session back at the ranch which we didn't really capture but there was a huge amount of informal knowledge sharing, demonstrating between all the participants and one of the highlights of the day. continued . . .

Focus Group throughts

It was a great day today at the focus group for RuralNet|online. Got to meet Simon and Paul for the first time, which was ace, as well as a bunch of other cool people. Even better, they were people that cared about rural affairs, community building and were interested in using online tools, even when they weren't too experienced in using them.

Anyone else able to join the focus group?

DSCF0968Paul and David have been working hard to pull the focus group together - the detailed programme is here.

The focus group already has enough members but we could make space for one or two more people. If you are interested please call 0845 1300 411 and ask for Angela or comment on this post.
